At the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, all types of animals, mainly dogs, cats and horses, are given the second chance for a home.
The Animal Rescue League (ARL) is a nonprofit organization that helps control the pet population, builds relationships between humans and animals and promote the welfare of animals.
Colton Davis, the Customer Experience Leader at the ARL, says that they get animals from all over the Des Moines area. They’ve rescued dogs from puppy mills and abusive homes and have picked up countless stray cats.
The ARL hosts multiple adoption events in order to encourage visitors to adopt their pets. Before adoption, many animals are taken through behavior training.
Davis has only been at the ARL for a month and a half, but loves that he gets to wake up everyday and work with animals.
“I could be having the worst day ever, and then go hang out with the animals, and my spirits are just immediately lifted,” Davis said.
