The Western Gateway Park has seen one of the biggest festivals in Des Moines on September 25th. Everyone from different countries crowded the Iowa’s Latino Heritage Festival 2017. Fresh pina coladas and delicious tacos. This family friendly event has been celebrated for 14 years and has activities and entertainment for all ages.
One of the event sponsors, Western Union says they are targetting for Des Moines to be the “Welcoming City” to all immigrants. There are corn eating contest, a health village, an artwork display, and many more. There is also a children’s area, where kids can makes crafts, break piñatas every hour, play on inflatable rides. There is daylong entertainment from various musical acts, dancers and martial arts performers. Cost to attend is $5 for adults and $1 for children 12 and younger. Oh, and there’s “Lucha Libre“!
