Drake Digital News provides an outlet for reports prepared by students in Drake University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
In spring 2017, students in Professor Wright’s Video for Journalists class, Professor Grace Provenzano’s Advanced Reporting for TV & the Web class and Professor Inman’s Advanced Reporting class will be posting to the website. Students in Professor Snider’s Social Media Strategies class will be running the Drake Digital News Facebook page.
About the professors
David Wright teaches Mass Media in a Global Society to all students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He also teaches courses in web page design, audio and video for the web, web animation, video and audio studio production, television field production, digital video editing, photography, remote television production, and other specialized computer courses.
Grace Provenzano is a journalist, documentary producer and educator. An Assistant Professor at Drake University, she has produced numerous documentaries on a wide range of subjects. Grace has reported news in more than 25 countries. She spent 15 years in the field as a reporter and anchor, covering important stories such as the fall of the Berlin Wall and the first democratically-held elections in Russia. She also worked in several U.S. markets, including San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento.
Jeff Inman has spent the last 15 years documenting the ever-morphing world of pop culture. He’s been the Arts and Entertainment Editor at three alternative newsweeklies, starting with the Des Moines-based Cityview and ending with the Las Vegas Weekly. In between he helped launch the Sin City music monthly Noise, received numerous accolades from the Nevada and Utah Press Associations, including Utah’s 2001 Media and Criticism Writer of the Year, and covered the Strip and surrounding city for Billboard and Rolling Stone.
Chris Snider joined Drake University full-time in 2010 after spending three years as an adjunct instructor. He moved to Des Moines in 2005 to work as editor of Juice magazine, a weekly publication for readers age 25-34. In 2007, he became assistant managing editor for digital and innovation at the Des Moines Register. Chris does digital marketing for local companies, including Kohles & Bach Furnace and A/C.
